New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor left Friday’s game against the host Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning with what the team later called soreness in his right side.
Lindor, a four-time All-Star in the American League who has struggled in his first season with the Mets, grounded out to first base with one out and one runner on base in the fifth and did not make much of an effort to run to first. He seemed to reach briefly at his right side.
In the bottom of the inning, Luis Guillorme came on to play shortstop.
Lindor, a .280 career hitter in his six seasons with the Cleveland Indians, went 1-for-3 before his exit on Friday and is hitting .228 for the season. The Mets, who lead the N.L. East, were beginning a three-game series in Pittsburgh.
