New York Knicks insider gives major update on possible Zach LaVine and Karl-Anthony Towns trades

The New York Knicks have been linked to possible trades for a pair of All-Stars this summer, and a team insider has a major update on if deals are at all possible before the start of training camp.

After such a productive season in 2022-2023, there was a great deal of hope that the New York Knicks would swing a blockbuster deal this summer. They reached the semifinals this spring and seem one big piece away from being a legitimate title contender. Yet, a game-changing move has not been made by the organization so far this offseason.

Yes, they have been active and made a few decisions that will have a positive impact on their roster ahead of next season, but nothing even close to adding a star player to their roster. Nevertheless, over the last couple of months, the organization has been linked to potential trade markets for big names like Zach LaVine and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Both players have been the subject of various trade rumors and would seem like good fits for the Knicks for different reasons. Yet, a new report from The Athletic’s NBA insider Fred Katz suggests the team making a blockbuster trade for the All-Star talents is not happening this summer if at all.

When it comes to Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine, New York has had conversations with Chicago about a potential deal but there was a “giant” asking price on the two-time All-Star and the talks reportedly did not get very far.

As for the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise face Karl-Anthony Towns, the impending free agent also has a “sky-high” asking price from his current team. However, unlike LaVine the New York Knicks allegedly have shown no interest in the three-time All-Star despite the notable CAA links, according to Katz.

Considering how measured the organization’s approach has been to blockbuster trades, the Knicks may be waiting for prices to drop before the trade deadline next year to make serious pursuits for players like LaVine and Towns.
