While New York Knicks fans love the team’s trio of Villanova alumni, a team insider claims the group could be broken up this summer under “the right” scenario.

This could be a big summer for the Knicks. They have a pair of key players that will hit the free agent market at the end of the month, and they own three picks in the first 38 selections of the 2024 NBA Draft. However, like previous offseasons, the team has been tossed into speculation about a blockbuster trade.

The organization has a boatload of first-round picks and some worthwhile players on the roster that could be useful in a blockbuster trade. On Friday, SNY Knicks insider Ian Begley looked at the possibility of the organization making a push for Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns.

In a potential trade, two-time All-Star Julius Randle and Bojan Bogdanovic could be moved and their contracts match up well in a deal for the four-time All-Star. However, if they choose to opt out of the final year of Bogdanovic’s deal, players like Josh Hart or Mitchell Robinson might be added to a trade. Moving Hart might upset some Knicks supporters since he has become a huge fan favorite.

However, Begley added an extra bit of info on the lengths the Knicks might go to land a game-changer star this summer. “My read is that any player outside of [Jalen] Brunson would be available in the right trade, as you’d expect.”

Brunson being the one untouchable on the roster is no surprise. However, the Villanova trio of Brunson, Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo were a big part of the team’s success in 2023-24 and are popular with fans. But if the organization has the chance to get players Towns or stars like Donovan Mitchell or Devin Booker, NYK fans should be prepared to part with some of their favorites.
