A new NBA rumor may open the door to the New York Knicks filling needs for the second half and potential run to the 2025 NBA Finals.
This has been a very good season so far for the Knicks. Before they began their 2024-25 campaign they made a pair of blockbuster trades that brought in Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges. Adding two new players to the starting lineup — especially All-Star caliber talents — can lead to some growing pains. However, New York has performed better than expected.

Heading into their huge game on Saturday against the Boston Celtics, they have a top-five record in the NBA. A very potent offense. And a defense that still has not reached its full potential yet. Once talented rim protector and rebounder Mitchell Robinson returns to the lineup this month, the Knicks should be even better.
Nevertheless, they are not a complete team. New York could use more depth — especially at center since Robinson has a long injury history. In general, they could use more veteran talent on the bench that coach Tom Thibodeau can trust so he can give his stars more rest time.
The Knicks have been linked to various NBA trade rumors in recent weeks, but a recent report may offer a perfect trade partner to fill those needs before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
Should the New York Knicks make a push to trade for Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon?

On Tuesday night, NBA insider Jake Fischer gave an update on what the Philadelphia 76ers could do before the trade deadline. There have been many rumors surrounding the team as they continue to disappoint this season.
The New York Knicks have been linked to a potential deal for French powerhouse Guerschon Yabusele. However, Fischer claims the 76ers would rather move pieces so they can re-sign Yabusele. That is why he added in his report that “Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon, meanwhile, are two more Sixers veterans who continue to attract trade interest.”
Both would be very good additions to the Knicks this season and next for the bench. Drummond is past his prime, but he is still a rock-solid center off the bench and as an injury fill-in. While Gordon would add more offensive punch from the bench with Miles McBride.
To make a deal possible, New York would likely need to give up Precious Achiuwa, Cameron Payne, and rookie Tyler Kolek. Losing Achiuwa may bother some. But it’s probably worth the risk since he will hit free agency again this summer and likely be out of the team’s price range after another good season in 2024-25.
