This one was for Coach Hackett.
The New York Jets made that clear before Sunday’s matchup against the Denver Broncos even kicked off, when tight end C.J. Uzomah took the field with his teammates, saying, “Let’s win this b—h for Hackett.”
While it may have just been another game on the schedule, it’s hard not to be reminded of coach Sean Payton’s comments when he took over as head coach, calling the Hackett-led Broncos “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL.”
On Sunday, it was Hackett’s Jets who got the last laugh over Payton’s Broncos, who have the worst defense in the NFL through five weeks, allowing 36.2 points per game. Then, after the Jets defeated the Broncos 31-21, sending Denver to 1-4, it was the Jets’ social media team who couldn’t resist poking fun at the entire situation.
The meme is a classic reference to the movie Home Team, the 2022 biographical sports comedy starring Kevin James, which is based on the time Coach Payton was facing a one-year suspension from the NFL.
Even though he’s injured, Aaron Rodgers also chimed in, showing his public support for Hackett, reminding everyone who he’s been behind all along, dating back to his days in Green Bay.
