We are less than two weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft, and speculations have been running rampant on what the New York Giants will do with the sixth overall pick.
The team has several needs they need to fill, so it’s imperative that they not only hit on their first-round pick but on all six of their draft picks.
There’s been much intrigue as to what direction the team will take with their second-round pick (47th overall) because there are several players projected to be on the board that can fill one of their needs.
Here’s our ranking of the top five options for the New York Giants with the 47th overall pick.
Xavier Legette, wide receiver, South Carolina
If the Giants go with a quarterback in Round 1, rest assured that they will take a receiver in Round 2 to help his development, and Xavier Leggette would be an ideal candidate.
At 6’3 227 pounds, not only does he possess the size to win contested passes, but he also has the speed to blow past defenders as he illustrated with his 4.39 40 time. He was plagued by injuries early in his college career, but last season he had a breakout campaign catching 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.
He has the potential to be as explosive as the receivers taken in round one which would make him a great value pick at 47.
Troy Franklin, wide receiver, Oregon
Franklin is one of the best big-play receivers in this draft class as he scored 14 touchdowns in just 13 games last season. What’s most encouraging about his outlook, is his production steadily rose across the board in his three seasons at Oregon.
Due to his thin 6’2 187 pound frame, he may not be poised to become the number-receiving option for Big Blue in 2024 but could fill that role the following season, especially with Darius Slayton entering the final year of his contract.
Bo Nix, quarterback, Oregon
If New York decides to take a receiver in the first round, they still might be able to find their quarterback of the future in the second round in Bo Nix.
Nix has a ton of experience having appeared in 61 games during his five years in college (3 at Auburn, 2 at Oregon) which makes him as ready to play as any of the quarterback prospects. He has good velocity on his throws and he’s accurate as his completion percentage improved every year.
If New York takes the 6’2, 214-pound quarterback, he might sit behind Daniel Jones this upcoming season, but he’ll be ready to take over the reins in 2025.
Tyler Nubin, safety, Minnesota
With the loss of free safety Xavier McKinney in free agency, acquiring a safety is one of the team’s biggest needs. Fortunately for New York, one of the best safeties in the draft might still be on the board in Tyler Nubin.
Nubin has great instincts and is a ball hawk having come down with 13 interceptions in his five years at Minnesota including five last year. He can also help in stopping the run as he was tied for second on the team in tackles last season (53).
He may not have the ideal speed you want from someone who plays on the backend of defense, but he makes up for it with his footwork and instincts.
Ennis Rakestraw, cornerback,Missouri
One of the biggest questions for New York heading into this season will be who will start at corner opposite Deonte Banks? The answer could be Ennis Rakestraw who is one of the top corners in this class.
The 6-foot 188-pound Rakestraw is a physical corner with good body control that the team needs when they face tall and physical receivers such as A.J. Brown. He’s been credited with 24 pass breakups during his four-year career at Missouri but only has one interception.
He and Banks would give New York one of the more physical corner tandems in the NFC. Fans would just have to hope he’s still on the board when New York makes their second pick.
