New York Giants News: Quarterback Daniel Jones exited Sunday’s Week 12 NFL contest against the Cincinnati Bengals with a hamstring injury in the third quarter.

The second-year quarterback did not return to action. Instead, veteran Colt McCoy closed it out en route to helping the Giants to their third straight win and a first-place status in the NFC East. We now have more information on Jones, and it’s not great.

New York Giants news: Daniel Jones hamstring injury “pretty bad”

“A source told ESPN the initial belief is that it’s a ‘pretty bad’ hamstring injury. More tests are scheduled Monday to determine the full extent of the injury,” Jordan Raanan noted after Sunday’s game.

A video shows what some have described as a hamstring strain. As you can see, Jones was clutching for the back of his leg after the run.

That’s not a great sign. It’s also important to note that hamstring injuries have a way of lingering. Pending the status of the tests he receives Monday, Jones likely won’t be available for the Giants’ Week 13 contest against the Seattle Seahawks.

New York Giants news: Team in first place after Sunday’s win

The backdrop here is New York’s status as a first-place team in the NFC East despite boasting a 4-7 record. If Jones is out over the long term, McCoy will get the start under center. He’s the only other quarterback currently on the Giants’ 53-man roster.

McCoy, 34, has started a grand total of 28 games in his 10-year career. That includes just three starts since the end of the 2014 season. Going with him would be a less-than-ideal situation for first-year Giants head coach Joe Judge. The backdrop here is an important five-game stretch for the Giants to close out the regular season.

New York Giants schedule

As you can see, it’s not an easy stretch of games for the Giants. They have four consecutive outings against teams who currently boast winning records before a Week 17 showdown with the struggling Dallas Cowboys.
