New York Giants reportedly want Drake Maye in 2024 NFL Draft but likely to lose him to rival team

A new report claims the New York Giants would be very interested in trading up to take North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, however, the Washington Commanders are just as high on the NFL Draft prospect and will block any chances of that possibility.

In most years, having the sixth overall pick in the draft would be an enviable position to be in. However, with the Giants in need of an upgrade at QB, the sixth spot is a frustrating place to be. In the 2024 draft class, there are three players football pundits believe have the potential to be franchise signal callers.

Unfortunately, those players — Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniels — could all be off the board in the first three picks of the draft. If the Giants have any hope of landing Maye or Daniels, since Williams is expected to go at No. 1, they need to trade into the top three.

If the team were to make such a bold decision, SNY New York Giants insider Connor Hughes believes Maye would be the team’s preferred choice. “Maye, specifically, they’re high on,” he wrote on Wednesday.

However, all signs point to the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders standing pat at the second and third picks, respectively. The Giants could hope that Washington — who has a ton of money to use in free agency — goes in a different direction with their pick at No. 3 and signs a veteran QB. But that seems unlikely because the NFC East team is also a fan of Maye.

Earlier this week, The Athletic’s NFL reporter Mike Sando claimed that after meeting with him at the NFL Combine, new Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters is “really into” Maye. Meaning if he is still on the board at three — which is expected to happen — it is looking extremely likely they will draft the North Carolina star next month.
