Not everyone was born to be a sports athlete. That includes Stephen A. Smith, even if he’s one of the most well-known sports analysts alive.

But the New Orleans Pelicans aren’t impressed with Smith’s ‘hot takes’ heard over the years. Yet, it doesn’t help that Smith recently took aim at Zion Williamson.

Here were Smith’s controversial remarks, made on Friday’s Get Up! TV show.

“Zion Williamson, it’s not about his game. It’s about how many burgers he’s eating. And whether or not he is going to be in shape or is he going to keep eating McDonald’s and have chefs clamoring for him to come to their restaurants. That what he has to prove, that the chefs don’t love him any longer, OK? That he’s committed to playing basketball and being in shape.”

Stephen A. Smith on Zion Williamson

It’s not the first time Smith has targeted Williamson either.

“Zion Williamson … went to the free throw line – Ladies and gentlemen, I saw a belly. A belly. Like, when he took a deep breath, his belly bounced.”

“What’s up, Zion? It’s bad enough getting your ass kicked … But you look like you showed up to the game having just ate a buffet. Not something from the buffet, I said the buffet. Like you ate the damn table…He’s fat.”

Those are some harsh comments from one of the biggest haters in the game today. But the Pelicans had their own response to the popular media personality.

New Orleans Pelicans roast Stephen A. Smith over athletic skills

Knowing they couldn’t just stand by while their superstar got roasted by someone with a fraction of Zion Williamson’s talent level, the New Orleans Pelicans’ social media team essentially went to war with Stephen A. Smith.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Pelicans’ social media team also put together a ‘highlight’ reel of Stephen A. Smith’s finest athletic accomplishments. Good luck not laughing at this one.

Yeah, it didn’t take long for Smith to respond to the Pelicans on social media. Maybe if Smith had never suffered his “devastating knee injury,” his legend could have been larger than life. Either way, we’re appreciating the comedy.
