San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is only 22, but his NBA rise already feels less like development and more like a speedy chase through the record books. This is even more evident after his pivotal role in their Game 7 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Frenchman combines rare physical tools, guard-like skills and a mentality shaped around becoming the best player possible, not just another great one.

Following their Western Conference Finals win on Saturday, Wembanyama added another marker, as he moved past LeBron James for a Conference Finals scoring record. Against OKC, he posted a team-leading 22 points as the Spurs cemented their place in the 2026 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.

As a result, the center-forward is now the youngest player in NBA history to lead a Conference Finals series in scoring, taking the record from Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, per HoopsHype.

This is a notable feat in itself, because James has turned into the modern standard for greatness. Passing him in any age-based playoff category is never a casual achievement.

Furthermore, Victor Wembanyama’s wider season makes the record feel less isolated as he also became the youngest Conference Finals MVP this year.

He was already the youngest Defensive Player of the Year, and also became the youngest to feature on the All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team selections, strengthening the feeling that his accolades is moving at historic speed.

The Spurs’ 111-103 win over the Thunder in Game 7 was not even his loudest game of the series, but it completed the latest chapter in a run that keeps inviting all-time comparisons.

Wembanyama still has titles and top-level longevity to chase. Yet the evidence already says his name belongs in conversations most NBA players never reach.
