Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry has been focused this offseason on overhauling the roster assembled by his predecessor. Part of those efforts reportedly includes a recent effort to land Golden State Warriors wing Jonathan Kuminga.
The Athletic‘s Anthony Slater reports that Sacramento floated Golden State a sign-and-trade deal that would send Kuminga to the Kings with Devin Carter and two future second-round picks going back to the Warriors.

Golden State viewed this as a “buy-low attempt” by the Kings’ front office, and the offer has been rebuffed. Instead, the Warriors’ front office is reportedly insisting on receiving a future first-round pick and a young player in any deal for Kuminga.
Other suitors for Kuminga, including the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat, have shown no interest in meeting that demand. While multiple clubs want to sign Kuminga, Golden State has signaled it will likely match any offer he receives rather than lose him for nothing in NBA free agency.

In Sacramento’s defense, it did offer a young player who was a recent first-round pick. The Kings spent the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft on Carter, but he missed most of his rookie season due to left shoulder surgery.
For now, the Warriors’ front office is still posturing, hoping their asking price for a sign-and-trade is either met or that it discourages enough interested parties so Kuminga re-signs with the team. While this might not necessarily be the best move for the club’s relationship with Kuminga, Golden State has shown no sign of changing its stance.
