The Milwaukee Bucks disastrous 2015-16 season has gone from bad to worse over the past week or so.
On the heels of the team losing starting point guard Michael Carter-Williams for the season with a hip injury, comes this news regarding former lottery pick O.J. Mayo.
The reserve guard sustained a broken ankle after tripping over stairs at his house.
“Milwaukee Bucks guard O.J. Mayo suffered a fractured right ankle on Thursday morning and will miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season, General Manager John Hammond announced today. Mayo accidentally tripped descending his stairs at home.”
Mayo, the No. 3 overall pick back in 2008, was averaging a career-low 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game at the time of the injury. He was expected to take on a larger role to conclude the season with Carter-Williams out. That’s obviously no longer going to be the case.
Without two of the top guards in their rotation, the Bucks look to finish out a disappointing season strong.
They entered Thursday’s action with the fourth-worst record in the Eastern Conference (27-38) and completely out of the playoff race.
