The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade buzz has been impossible to ignore. The New York Knicks have been linked to the two-time MVP for months. But now, a Knicks legend has stepped in with a cold dose of reality. John Starks, one of the most beloved figures in franchise history, spoke with Front Office Sports and did not hold back at all.

Starks was clear from the start. “Giannis is not coming. He’s not coming to New York,” he said.

He went further, expressing genuine respect for Antetokounmpo and his loyalty to the Milwaukee Bucks. Starks pointed out that Antetokounmpo had every chance to leave before the Bucks won the championship but chose to stay, fight, and deliver.

“He said, just give me some players put around me, and I’ll bring you a championship, and he delivered on his promise.”

Starks‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ highlighted his admiration for players who stick around and work hard even in tough situations instead of abandoning the team. In fact, this is exactly what Antetokounmpo did, and Starks thinks that loyalty is a very strong character trait.

Starks also mentioned that New York is a rough place to play in if you can’t get wins. He noted that the Knicks have become a desirable organization now because of the management, but winning still needs to come with it.

Could Starks Actually Be Wrong?

But‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ here are some things to take note of. The situation in Milwaukee has changed drastically. Rumors say that the Bucks and Antetokounmpo are ready to ‘divorce’ this summer. Antetokounmpo’s injury issues have lowered his trade value, so a Knicks deal including Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby might be more realistic than ever.

Not long ago, Shams Charania reported that the Knicks were among four teams interested in a trade for Antetokounmpo. Under the leadership of Leon Rose, the Knicks front office has assembled one of the most attractive teams in the entire league.

Although Starks may admire Antetokounmpo for his dedication, loyalty does not always top a total breakdown of a franchise. However, the door has not been completely closed ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌yet.
