Mitchell Robinson has always been known for cryptic, hard-to-decode social media posts that leave fans reading between the lines. But after the New York Knicks‘ 114-103 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on March 27, Robinson seems to have flipped the script entirely, delivering a reply so honest and self-aware that the entire Knicks fanbase did not see it coming.
After the game, one frustrated fan wrote to Robinson on Snapchat: “Y’all played like s*** today, man.” Robinson, fired back without hesitation: “We did, but that’s basketball ain’t going to be a great night every night.”
Mitchell Robinson Holds a Mirror Up to NY Knicks
Snapchat was definitely not the only social media platform where Robinson expressed his feelings openly. Just after the Knicks Fan TV clip showing Robinson instructing his teammate Ariel Hukporti on rebounding before the game. He dropped a comment after the game on the same post.
Robinson wrote: “It doesn’t matter unless we alter our mindset; we aren’t doing anything remarkable — keep that nonsense up, myself included.”
A Loss That Stung The Standings
This was definitely not a throwaway game. In fact, a Knicks‘ win over Charlotte would have boosted New York to second place in the Eastern Conference, a seeding that offers a lot of playoff advantages.
However, they let a Hornets team that was short-handed dominate the first half, 65-55, and even trailed them 94-76 in the third quarter before a late, meaningless run. The Knicks’ record is currently at 48-26, third in the East, but the playoff positioning is yet to be decided.
A Monster Test Awaits vs Thunder
There is no time to be down. The Knicks are heading to Paycom Center to play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. Thunder sits atop the Western Conference with a 58-16 record and is very formidable, posting a 30-6 home record this season.
However, if Robinson’s honest remarks indeed hint at a real change of attitude, Knicks supporters should get ready to witness him delivering an exceptional rebounding show, totally controlling the area, relentlessly hounding every Thunder missed shot, and clearly demonstrating why a focused Mitchell Robinson is without doubt one of the most powerful big men in the league.
