The New York Knicks had a chance to make a real statement in their game against the Charlotte Hornets. Instead, they went home with a 114-103 loss, and Mitchell Robinson made sure nobody forgot how bad it was.
Knicks Fan TV posted a video that caught everyone’s attention. The caption read: “Coach Mitch giving Hukporti some pointers before the game.”
In the clip, Robinson could be heard breaking down rebounding for the young big man. He told Hukporti, “How to rebound…you know I had injuries back in the day…so I sat and watched our team shoot…So like OG, prime example: OG shot gets just above front rim, so [misses] gonna go back toward him every time.”
After the game, Robinson didn’t sugarcoat anything. He went to the same post comments and wrote: “Don’t even matter unless we change our approach, we ain’t doing s*** special keep that bulls*** up myself included.”
Knicks Had No Answers All Night
On the court, the Knicks didn’t seem to find any rhythm. The Hornets took the lead right from the start, 38-36 after the first quarter, and kept increasing it. At halftime, it was 65-55. Things got even worse in the third quarter, with Kon Knueppel and LaMelo Ball working together to drastically widen the lead, resulting in 94-76 before the fourth.
The Knicks showed some fight late, with Josh Hart stepping up and Jalen Brunson finishing with 26 points and 13 assists. It was an important game. A win could have elevated New York to the second seed in the East. Instead, they allowed a short-handed Hornets team to overpower them.
New York faces the Thunder on March 29, and it will not be easy. OKC will come in hungry after losing to the Celtics. With Boston still holding the second seed, the Knicks must find a way to get this win.
Besides, the Knicks will face even tougher opponents going forward, and if Robinson’s statement is to be believed, they need to sort this out immediately.
