Even though he’s played for four NBA teams, LeBron James is loyal to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he’s established a home base in California. James has spent the past seven seasons in Los Angeles, where he won a championship in 2020.
Yet, it seems like every time the offseason comes around, new LeBron rumors emerge. This time, they link him to the Dallas Mavericks, who have his old pals Anthony Davis plus Kyrie Irving and just drafted potential superstar Cooper Flagg.
Oddly enough, even though the Mavs traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers, now The Athletic’s Jovan Buha says the LeBron to Dallas links are gaining traction as of late.
“I will say that there has been some LeBron-and-Dallas buzz going on a couple years now. Remember in the summer of 2023, right after Dallas had traded for Kyrie, there was that rumor out there that LeBron was gonna go to Dallas on a vet minimum contract and team up with Draymond, and it was gonna be Luka, Kyrie, LeBron and Draymond. That, of course, did not happen. But there has been some buzz I will say in the general NBA ether over the last week or two with LeBron and Dallas.”

There’s been zero indication that the Lakers are prepared to consider trading James, yet now that they’ve secured Doncic, anything is possible. Plus, if the season takes a turn for the worse, the odds of a LeBron trade would surely increase in an effort to help the 40-year-old compete for what would be the fifth NBA championship of his career.
Yet, for now, James may want to sit and see how the Lakers re-shape their roster this offseason. If the changes aren’t to his liking, maybe we’ll see yet another late summer blockbuster.
