JJ Redick continues to be the favorite in the clubhouse to replace Darvin Ham as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach.
While Los Angeles has yet to make a decision, it must be noted that Redick met with the team’s brass for several hours just recently. He’s been viewed as the favorite since the early stages of the process after Los Angeles fired Ham following two seasons in that role.
We’re now hearing more on this courtesy of NBA insider Marc Stein. He’s reporting that names have been bandied about to join Redick’s staff in Southern California. That includes longtime assistant Sam Cassell who is currently with the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics.
New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego as well as Dallas Mavericks assistant Jared Dudley have aso been mentioned as possibilities to join Redick’s staff.

It makes perfect sense for Redick to find assistants with experience. After all, the long time NBA player has no experience of his own manning a bench.
Of the group listed above, James Borrego has experience as an NBA head coach. He served in that role with the Charlotte Hornets from 2018-22.
