Golden State Warriors legend Draymond Green does not want to be a player that is still competing in the NBA at 40, and that is why he claims he wants to be done with the league within the next few years.

The Golden State Warriors are just days away from beginning a postseason defense of their 2021-2022 NBA championship. But it has been a difficult season for the league’s current dynasty franchise as they struggled on the road and on defense throughout the last six months, plus they dealt with injuries and personal issues for several key players.

However, through it all, Draymond Green has been there helping to keep the Golden State Warriors’ head above water and in a spot where they could avoid having to compete in the NBA Play-In Tournament. In general, Draymond Green has been a reliable rock throughout the franchise’s historic run over the last decade. But that won’t last forever.

There is a real possibility that Green’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors could end after this season as there are some that expect him to opt out of the final year of his current contract in pursuit of another big payday. And it seems that the next deal likely will be his last in the league.

Golden State Warriors record (’22-’23): 44-38

In a Tuesday interview with the East Bay Times, Green spoke about his future and explained that he wants to end his career as a member of the Warriors because the finish line of the 33-year-old’s career is in sight.

“I would love to finish my career here. That’s been my goal since signing this current contract that I’m on. It’s looking like a more realistic thing to be finishing here. … And I also don’t want to play 20 years in the NBA, I want to play 15 years in the NBA. In four more years, it’s likely I’ll be contributing at a high level and living up to the contract I’ll be on. As far as the probability, I can’t give you that because it isn’t up to me. If it was up to me, I can tell you 100 percent I would finish my career here.”

– Draymond Green

This season is the Golden State Warriors great’s 11th in the league, meaning a new four-year contract with the Warriors or another team could be the last for the future Hall-of-Famer.
