Giannis Antetokounmpo is likely nearing the end of his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee’s self-imposed trade deadline for Antetokounmpo is before Tuesday’s NBA Draft, meaning a deal could be coming in the next four days. At any moment, the Bucks star could be a member of a new team.

However, which team will trade for Antetokounmpo? The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics appear to be the finalists, but only one of them can acquire the superstar forward.

Why the Boston Celtics make sense for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Celtics don’t need Antetokounmpo; however, landing him would drastically change the direction of the franchise. Jayson Tatum figures to play in Boston for a long time, but the organization would likely have to move Jaylen Brown. Would it be worth breaking up Tatum and Brown for Antetokounmpo?

Boston needs to answer that question very soon, but Antetokounmpo and Tatum would be the NBA’s most fearsome duo. Brown performed at an elite level during the 2025-26 NBA season, but the 31-year-old Bucks star is one of the best players in the league. Antetokounmpo is on a different level.

This is a very tough decision for the Celtics, but if push comes to shove, they should be willing to move Brown for Antetokounmpo. However, it would take more than just Brown to complete a trade in Milwaukee, which might push the Celtics away. The organization simply isn’t desperate for a move.

Antetokounmpo would likely make Boston the favorites in the Eastern Conference, but there is a way to accomplish that goal by keeping Brown and its first-round picks. Landing Antetokounmpo would change the Celtics’ play style, but it could be worth it long term.

Why the Miami Heat make sense for Antetokounmpo

Unlike the Celtics, the Heat need Antetokounmpo. Miami has been fishing for a star player over the last seven years after acquiring Jimmy Butler in 2019. Butler eventually requested a trade, leaving the Heat with Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. Simply put, this is a must-trade situation for Miami.

The organization can’t offer the Bucks an A-level player like Brown, but it can send the 13th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, young players, and future first-round selections. The Bucks want multiple first-round picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, and a second lottery pick would be very appealing to the organization.

On paper, this would be an amazing move for Miami. Antetokounmpo and Adebayo would be one of the NBA’s best duos, giving the Heat a chance at returning to the NBA Finals. The team around the two players would be the biggest question; however, Miami has proven its ability to develop and surround star athletes in the past.

The Heat need to land Antetokounmpo. If the Celtics don’t offer Brown, Miami should be in a great spot to acquire the 31-year-old superstar. However, which NBA team will actually land Antetokounmpo in the next few days?

Prediction on which NBA team trades for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Heat will trade for Antetokounmpo before the 2026 NBA Draft. Miami is desperate to land a superstar player, and should be willing to give Milwaukee whatever it wants for the 31-year-old star. Outside of Adebayo, nothing should be off limits for the Heat when it comes to Antetokounmpo.

If the Bucks come to the Heat with an offer from another team, the organization shouldn’t stick to its guns or pull out of the race. This is the moment that Pat Riley and the Miami front office have been preparing for over the last seven years. If needed, they should be willing to trade the farm.

While the Celtics could offer Brown, will they add multiple first-round picks on top? If Boston was desperate to acquire a superstar, it would make sense; however, that doesn’t feel like the case. Tatum and Brown are a strong duo, and the Celtics can use those draft picks to build a team around them.

At the end of the day, the Heat make the most sense for Antetokounmpo. The organization has been pushing to acquire the superstar forward for months. There has been a lot of debate on whether Miami’s package is good enough for Antetokounmpo, but if needed, it should add more to put it over the top.
