3x NBA Dunk Contest champ’s son commits to play football for Deion Sanders at Colorado

Everyone’s headed to the Colorado Buffaloes to play college football for Deion Sanders in his first season, jumping to Division I play after dominating at Jackson State. The latest commitment to Colorado includes three-star defensive back Nahmier Robinson, who is the son of former NBA Dunk Contest champion Nate Robinson.

Just like his dad, Nahmier measures in at 5-foot-9, with his speed and quickness being two of his standout attributes. Robinson also received offers to play for Oregon, and even head back to his dad’s alma mater at Washington, but ultimately, as his social media caption states, the opportunity to play for Coach Prime was just too good to pass up.

While it may seem odd at first for the younger Robinson to take to football instead of following in his father’s footsteps, Nate also went to college on a football scholarship before deciding to stick with basketball in his sophomore year instead.

Robinson played for eight different NBA teams, including the New York Knicks, spanning 11 seasons from 2005 to 2016. But his biggest claim to fame has to be winning three dunk contests.

Perhaps his son can create a new narrative for the Robinson family, one that stretches over to the NFL as well. But first, he’ll have to make an impact at the college level, playing for one of the greatest athletes of all time in Deion Sanders.
