Nationals activate Stephen Strasburg from DL to start Wednesday

Three-time All-Star Stephen Strasburg has started a total of one game since June 8. His latest injury, a pinched nerve in the neck, has kept the Washington Nationals’ ace out for the past month-plus.

That will change Wednesday night with Strasburg being activated from the disabled list in time to start against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies.

It might be a little too late for both the star pitcher and his team. Washington pretty much waived the white flag earlier in the week by trading away multiple key veterans (more on that here).

The Nationals enter Wednesday’s action at .500 and 7.5 games back of the division leading Atlanta Braves in the National League East. It’s highly unlikely Strasburg’s return will be able to move the needle all too much here.

Prior to his recent bout with injuries, the 30-year-old starter was pitching to a 6-7 record with a 3.90 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 14 starts.
