Kyle Larson wasn’t happy on the radio after a string of incidents , some involving teammates and title contenders , left him with a 28th-place finish in Sunday’s Iowa Corn 350.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver was furious after a caution was called for a crash involving Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell. Just moments earlier, Larson had made contact with Bell while battling for 6th on Lap 251 and bounced off the outside wall and lost track position.
Two laps later, Bell was collected in a separate incident after Reddick and Chase Briscoe got together and brought out the yellow.
Kyle Larson’s strong start undone by chaos
Larson, who narrowly avoided the wreck, went off on team radio. NASCAR reporter Steven Taranto shared the rant, in which the 2021 Cup champion said:
“How much f — ing room do I have to leave people?” “I’ve been trying to be a good teammate, a good competitor and it hasn’t gotten me anywhere the last f — ing hour.”
He wasn’t wrong. Earlier in the final stage, Kyle Larson also made contact with teammate Chase Elliott while they were trying to split a slowing car and Larson had to correct a near spin.
The wreck and resulting caution shuffled the field again after Shane van Gisbergen spun later in the race and buried Larson in traffic. He never recovered while Elliott finished 14th. After a strong start, Larson’s day was undone by a series of misfortunes and he was venting in a weekend where multiple playoff drivers clashed under pressure.
After dominating early in the season, including a win at Las Vegas and strong runs on the intermediates, Larson is now fighting to get back on track. With the playoffs looming, the margin for error is getting smaller and smaller , and Sunday’s race showed how quickly a contender’s day can go sideways.
