Pete Alonso is a free agent for a second straight offseason, and he hopes for a long-term deal this time. Alonso, who quickly announced his intentions to enter free agency, has a great chance of finding a contract that aligns with his performance. In fact, two teams have been labeled as the favorites.

According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox remain the “two most likely landing spots” for Alonso this offseason. The 30-year-old first baseman has spent his entire MLB career with New York, while Boston hopes to improve the power in its lineup.

Alonso had a very strong 2025 MLB season with a .272 average, 38 home runs, and 126 runs batted in over 162 games. In fact, it was the second straight year that Alonso didn’t miss a single game. The All-Star first baseman’s availability might be his most impressive attribute.

Fenway Park would be a great fit for Alonso’s power, but New York would miss having his bat in the lineup. There is plenty of time for other teams to enter the mix, as Alonso waits for an organization to take a massive step forward and award his high-level play.
