A major update to a top list on MLB’s 50 best prospects right now brought more disappointing news for New York Mets fans.

The 2026 season has been a disaster for the Mets. They have been hit by a bunch of major injuries to key players, including Francisco Lindor. But more frustrating is that they have gotten underwhelming returns from much of the roster, including expensive offseason addition Bo Bichette.

They head into their game on Thursday with a sad 23-33 record and not a ton of hope. Yet, if there has been one bright side — beyond Juan Soto’s play — it’s that rookies Carson Benge and AJ McEwing have brought life to the roster. The pair of outfielders is two of the team’s top prospects and among several talented youngsters on the big league roster in 2026, including pitcher Jonah Tong.

The Mets have been able to turn to their minor league system over the last year because it has been one of the best in the league. However, it looks like the recent promotions and trades that included top prospects over that time have seriously depleted the number of exceptional minor leaguers the organization has.

On Thursday, The Athletic’s Keith Law posted a major update of his top 50 MLB prospects list. Over the last few years, the Mets have usually had one or two players in the rankings. However, this new version has zero youngsters from New York’s system.

It doesn’t mean the team doesn’t have minor leaguers who can come up and make an impact. But it is worrisome that Tong, Ewing, Ryan Clifford, and Jack Wenninger — players Mets fans have high hopes for — aren’t considered among the 50 best prospects in MLB right now.
