After missing two starts with a back injury, Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer came off the 10-day injured list on Thursday and will make his return against the Colorado Rockies

Scherzer received a cortisone shot a week ago and after discomfort in his back went away, threw a full bullpen session on Monday without suffering a setback.

The 34-year-old returns to a team on the rise and could provide them the push to get into the playoff picture. In pursuit of his fourth Cy Young award, Scherzer will take the mound with a 2.30 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 181 strikeouts across 129.1 innings.
