In 2025, the Boston Red Sox bullpen finished the regular season with a 3.41 ERA, the second-best mark in baseball. Just because it’s a strength doesn’t mean Boston won’t get involved in the market for one of the top relievers in MLB free agency. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Red Sox front office is open to the idea of creating a “super bullpen.” That comes with reported interest in Devin Williams. While the All-Star closer is coming off a down season in New York, he had a career 1.83 ERA in six seasons (235.2 innings) with the Milwaukee Brewers. If Boston signed him, he would be a setup man for Aroldis Chapman.

Even with Zack Wheeler (thoracic outlet syndrome) likely sidelined for a significant portion of the 2026 season, the Philadelphia Phillies have given no indication that starter Ranger Suárez will be re-signed. He is one of the most coveted starters in free agency, with a bidding war that already seems to be out of the club’s price range. Re-signing Kyle Schwarber is, for now, the club’s top priority.

The New York Yankees are expected to land one of the top pitchers in MLB free agency; it’s only a question of which one. Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports that Michael King returning to New York is a very real possibility. King, who grew up in Rochester, New York, first joined the Yankees organization in 2017. He developed into a very effective pitcher, posting a 3.38 ERA in 247.2 career innings with New York before being included as part of the return in the Juan Soto trade. Two years later, the 6-foot-3 righty could now return home ahead of his age-31 season to provide the Yankees with a mid-rotation starter who could also pitch out of the bullpen if needed.

The back-to-back World Series champions will be spending more money this offseason. However, that doesn’t mean the Los Angeles Dodgers will spend in the way everyone expects them to. ESPN‘s Jeff Passan reported that Los Angeles is unlikely to offer Kyle Tucker a contract of 10-plus years, which would probably take the team out of the running. Furthermore, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports that the Dodgers could be more inclined to find a stopgap option in the outfield this offseason.
