The Milwaukee Brewers have earned a reputation for trading high-end pitchers when they are nearing the end of their contracts. With the MLB trade deadline just a month away, All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta has popped up in trade rumors.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post writes that despite immense interest from around the league, it’s a “long shot” that the Brewers trade Peralta. That’s because Peralta’s contract is extremely valuable.

While he is only under contract through 2026, his salary is a bargain for his production. While he last earned an All-Star selection in 2021, Perala entered MLB games today ranked 15th in ERA. He is also in the top 25 for strikeouts and WHIP this season.
For context regarding Peralta’s $8 million salary, there are 67 starting pitchers with a higher base salary than his in 2025. Next season, Peralta will rank 57th in starting pitcher salaries and that’s before extensions and new deals signed this upcoming offseason.

The contract and production are too valuable for the Brewers to move, especially with the club battling for a wild card spot this season. While it’s at least possible Milwaukee could revisit a trade this winter, there are no indications right now that Peralta is available.
