Elite MLB insider Ken Rosenthal believes the Milwaukee Brewers should make a bold trade for All-Star Eugenio Suarez. And claims they have the prospect pieces to beat out teams like the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs in the trade chase.
It must be noted that The Athletic Insider hasn’t specifically heard the Brewers have been on the phone with the Arizona Diamondbacks this week. Or any player in the league, for that matter. However, in a new column lauding another strong showing in 2025, he explains why targeting a trade for the third baseman is just a logical move based on the team’s current performance at the plate.
“The Brewers’ offense lacks the slug generally necessary to succeed in the postseason. Even with improvement in July, the Brewers entered Wednesday ranked 23rd in slugging percentage, 25th in hard-hit rate, and 30th in barrel percentage,” he wrote. “Which is where Suárez would enter the picture.”
There will be a lot of competition for the veteran infielder having a career year. Including from the Yankees, Cubs, and possibly the Mets. Does Milwaukee have enough to beat out those teams for the impending free agent? Rosenthal claims they can and get other impact players in the same deal.

Milwaukee Brewers have the assets to win the Eugenio Suarez trade chase
“The Brewers, sitting on a surplus of starting pitchers, possess the kind of controllable arms that might entice the Arizona Diamondbacks,” Rosenthal wrote. “Granted, the Brewers likely will need some of those pitchers to replace potential free agents José Quintana, Nestor Cortes Jr., and Brandon Woodruff. They also would require more than Suárez to part with a Logan Henderson or Chad Patrick.”
The insider makes a fair point that some of the team’s top pitching prospects will serve as replacements for those soon-to-be free agent pitchers. However, with the impressive rise of All-Star Jacob Misiorowski, it seems they now have one of those spots filled for 2026.
Are the Brewers likely to make a trade for Suarez? Probably not. But they enter the weekend in first place in the NL Central. On a serious role after winning nine of their last 10. And getting very close to full strength at the right time. For a team whose biggest weakness is hitting, adding a player with the potential to his 60 homers in 2025 is a much-needed addition. Even if it means giving up premium players for a rental.
