The Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping to improve their bullpen during the 2025 MLB offseason. Despite winning the World Series, Los Angeles’ bullpen struggled to produce during the postseason. The Dodgers want to make improvements; however, will they sign an elite closer from the New York Mets?
According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya and Katie Woo, former Mets closer Edwin Diaz is “likely outside of the Dodgers’ desired range” in free agency. Diaz is the top reliever on the market and should receive a large contract, but Los Angeles doesn’t appear ready to open the pocketbook for an elite closer.
In 2025, Diaz was elite with a 1.63 ERA and 28 saves, making him one of MLB’s best closers. According to Ardaya and Woo, the Dodgers want to stick to “shorter-term frameworks,” which makes a deal for Diaz unlikely unless he desperately wants to join Los Angeles.
Diaz is set for a major payday, and several teams are interested in acquiring his services. The Dodgers would love to have Diaz hold down the ninth inning in the 2026 MLB offseason, but, as is rarely the case, they don’t seem committed to a long-term contract.
