A new report claims the Los Angeles Dodgers plan to throw their official support behind LA’s social movement against ICE raids in the city.
One of the biggest stories in the United States over the last two weeks has been protests against the Trump administration’s massive wave of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids around the country. In Los Angeles alone, 118 people have reportedly been rounded up in recent weeks.
Immigration has been a hot-button topic for several years. And many major organizations have remained neutral on the subject in that time. Including professional sports teams.

However, on Thursday, The Athletic reported, “The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to announce their plans Thursday to assist immigrant groups affected by recent militarized raids in the city.” As of now, it is unclear what specifically the club will do to help groups that have been the targets of ICE in recent weeks.
It is a bold step for the organization to take. Because pushing back against President Donald Trump and his administration’s goals always leads to public and bureaucratic retaliation. The administration targeting universities like Harvard or law firms around the country is just a few examples of how the president has used the power of his office to try and bring large public organizations to heel.
Following the rumors of the team taking an official stance on the situation, ICE officials tried to gain access to Dodger Stadium. However, the organization blocked ICE agents from entering. Then, eventually, they had the Los Angeles Police Department get involved and escort officials away from the venue.
Los Angeles is one of the biggest sanctuary cities in the nation. And like many major municipalities, it has a massive immigrant population. Especially when it comes to individuals from Latin America. A huge contingent of their fan base, and likely their workforce, has deep ties to Central and South America.
