Ketel Marte seems likely to be traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks this offseason. Marte has been in MLB trade rumors for months, and the Diamondbacks are being linked to free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman. If Bregman were to sign in Arizona, the 32-year-old second baseman would likely have to move.

Despite the Diamondbacks’ willingness to trade Marte, he is still a very good player. In 2025, Marte hit 28 home runs and drove in 72 runs, earning his third appearance in the MLB All-Star Game. With five years of control left on a team-friendly contract, Arizona wants a haul for its star second baseman.

Marte could be traded at any second, and it won’t be a surprise if it finally happens this winter. Below, we dive into five landing spots if the Diamondbacks end up trading Marte during the 2025 MLB offseason.

The Boston Red Sox are one of the main teams in on Marte, but it could essentially end up as a swap. If Bregman signs in Arizona, the team could trade Marte to Boston to help fill the hole in the middle of the lineup. This is a tough situation for the Red Sox, but acquiring Marte would help the organization for the 2026 MLB season and beyond.

The Toronto Blue Jays are a logical fit for Marte if the Diamondbacks go through with trading him. This would likely happen if Bo Bichette signed with another team, leaving the Blue Jays with a hole in the infield. Toronto could move Andres Gimenez to shortstop in place of Bichette, leaving Marte at second base for the defending American League champions.

Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners had Marte for the first two seasons of his MLB career and would love to have him back. After Jorge Polanco left for the New York Mets, the Mariners have a hole at second base. Seattle knows it needs to improve its roster to make a step to the next level, and Marte would be an excellent fit. The Mariners want to make the World Series, and the three-time All-Star would be a key piece in the lineup.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have Bryson Stott on the MLB roster; however, the teams could swap second basemen. Stott hasn’t lived up to the hype with Philadelphia, but still has three years of team control remaining. The Phillies would likely have to give up a young starting pitcher with Stott, but Marte would take the lineup to the next level.

Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals have a surplus of pitching and could be the perfect trade partner for the Diamondbacks. Kansas City wants to improve its lineup for the 2026 MLB season and acquiring Marte would be an excellent addition. If the Royals were willing to trade a young starting pitcher like Cole Ragans, Arizona could come away with a strong package while sending Marte to an intriguing destination.
