The Detroit Tigers are pushing for upgrades in their pitching staff. As of now, the Tigers have a strong five-man rotation; however, the bullpen is a more significant issue. Detroit’s bullpen struggled to induce swing-and-miss pitches in 2025, and the organization is aware of the need.

According to Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris, Detroit is “really involved” for relievers in free agency and trades. The Tigers have been linked to several relievers, such as Pete Fairbanks and Kyle Finnegan, but Harris noted that “major league bullpens are built in a variety of different ways.”

The Detroit president of baseball operations said a bullpen can be built in a variety of ways, including minor-league free-agent signings and waiver claims. In fact, some of the Tigers’ best relievers have been a product of waiver claims, such as Tyler Holton.

Detroit has earned trust with its pitching staff over the last few seasons, but the need for a late-inning closer and swing-and-miss relievers is extreme. The Tigers have to find a way to maximize their World Series window with Tarik Skubal, and adding multiple relievers is a good first step.
