The Detroit Tigers are looking for upgrades in their bullpen this winter. In 2025, Detroit’s bullpen struggled and lacked swing-and-miss pitchers after a strong 2024 MLB season. The Tigers have been linked to several players; however, a four-time All-Star closer from Los Angeles has emerged.
According to 7News’ Ari Alexander, the Tigers are interested in signing free-agent closer Kenley Jansen from MLB free agency. Jansen served as the closer for the Los Angeles Angels during the 2025 MLB season. Los Angeles is also interested in re-signing the four-time All-Star closer this winter.
In 2025, Jansen posted a 2.59 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 29 saves. It was one of Jansen’s best MLB seasons, but he didn’t earn a nod to the All-Star Game. Jansen would be a brilliant fit in Detroit, as he would serve as the organization’s closer throughout the 2026 MLB season.
The 38-year-old closer still looks good despite nearing his 40s, and the price likely won’t be as high as that of younger options. The Tigers need to find upgrades for their bullpen during the 2026 MLB season, and Jansen would be a great addition to the pitching staff.
