A new report suggests that it is very likely the Atlanta Braves don’t do anything before next week’s MLB trade deadline, despite having good reason to try and move their impending free agents.

Heading into the weekend, Atlanta is a non-factor in the National League East race and is probably a few weeks away from being eliminated from the Wild Card chase. That is why the expectation around the game is that they will be sellers before the July 31st trade deadline. Especially when it comes to their soon-to-be free agents.

However, some around MLB are under the impression the Braves don’t want to make any moves over the next few days.

“One executive who spoke with the Atlanta Braves said he was told the team does not even intend to trade its potential free agents,” The Athletic MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reports. “The Braves conveyed they are under no pressure to reduce payroll, the exec said, and would like to win as many games as possible to build momentum going into 2026.”

Atlanta Braves not willing to just dump salary in trades

It is a surprising approach for a team heading into a second straight season outside the postseason. And with some impending free agents that could make an impact for contending teams. However, Rosenthal also revealed a counter report from a Braves source that suggests they are open to making moves, but under certain conditions.

“A Braves source, however, said that was not a proper interpretation of the team’s position,” Rosenthal writes. “The team is willing to trade players on expiring contracts such as designated hitter Marcell Ozuna and closer Raisel Iglesias, the source said. But it has no interest in merely dumping salary. Its goal in any deal would be to receive some level of talent in return.”

There are still seven days left before the 2025 MLB trade deadline. However, based on these reports, it’s unlikely the Braves will make trades this summer.
