The Boston Red Sox enter MLB free agency with several tasks on the “to-do” list. Boston is facing another sweepstakes involving Alex Bregman while trying to work on its outfield logjam. So, what is the latest on the organization’s plans for the 2025 MLB offseason?
The Red Sox are making a middle-of-the-order bat with power the top priority during the offseason, as said by Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow at the MLB Winter Meetings. Boston was previously connected to Kyle Schwarber, but he re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies on a five-year contract worth $150 million.
Outside of Bregman, the Red Sox have been connected to free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso. The market is robust, with the Baltimore Orioles prioritizing Alonso after missing out on Schwarber. Therefore, the Red Sox will have to pay a high price to acquire a middle-of-the-order power hitter.
Boston’s pitching isn’t as big of a priority as the offense after trading for Sonny Gray from the St. Louis Cardinals. All of the focus for the Red Sox remains on the offense, with Bregman, Alonso, or Bo Bichette as the best options for the organization this winter.
