The Baltimore Orioles have been very active during the 2025 MLB Winter Meetings. Baltimore made a strong push for Kyle Schwarber before he re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, and now targets Pete Alonso and Kyle Tucker in free agency. However, the Orioles are also looking at what could be a historic trade.
The Orioles and Washington Nationals have had steady communication regarding a trade for starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, as reported by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. This is significant as the Orioles pursue a starting pitcher to complement Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish at the top of the rotation.
It is also crucial because Baltimore has not completed a trade with the Nationals since the franchise moved to Washington, D.C. in 2005. However, according to the MLB insider, there are no indications that a deal for Gore is close. Therefore, the 20-year wait for an Orioles-Nationals trade may not be over yet.
Baltimore would benefit from acquiring Gore, who posted a 4.17 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 30 games in 2025. The 26-year-old pitcher still has two more years of team control, meaning this wouldn’t be a one-year rental. As of now, Gore to the Orioles isn’t gaining momentum, but one phone call can change everything.
