Fans are crying out to the Chicago Bears that rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky should start after a stellar preseason performance.
One fan you’ll recognize — legendary Mike Ditka. He coached the Bears through seven postseasons from 1982-1992 and thinks there should be no debate about who starts for the Bears right now.

Ditka elaborated on why he thinks Trubisky should start over Glennon.
“What I saw out of Trubisky for a rookie in his first game I thought was outstanding. I don’t know too many rookies, including Tom Brady, Fran Tarkenton or anybody else that’s ever had that kind of a start, Ditka said, per TMZ Sports. Now, one game doesn’t make a career — I understand that — but the kid looked awfully good, he looked awfully composed, he threw the ball very accurately.”
Trubisky entered the game against the Denver Broncos in a two-minute drill to close out the second quarter and played straight through to the end. He even attempted a Hail Mary pass on the last play but overthrew his receiver, and the Bears wound up losing 24-17.
Along the way, however, Trubisky was sharp. He completed 18-of-25 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. He also added another 38 rushing yards.
Prior to Trubisky’s heroics, starter Mike Glennon struggled big time. He completed just 2-of-8 passing attempts for 20 yards and an awful pick-six (watch here.)
Of course, it’s worth pointing out that Trubisky was up against Denver’s reserves, while Glennon went against the starters. It is early, but the hype for Trubisky to start rather than Glennon is already getting out of control.
The Bears are committing to Glennon for now. At least that is the story they want us to believe.
