The Miami Heat ended their 2020-’21 season on a disappointing note and guard Tyler Herro played a significant role in the team’s playoff collapse. With the NBA offseason around the corner, Herro’s time in Miami may be running out.
Miami’s front office is expected to make significant changes to the roster this summer, finding new pieces to put around Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. According to Ethan Skolnick of Five Reason Sports, Herro is likely to be traded this offseason.
Let’s examine three potential landing spots for a Tyler Herro trade.
Tyler Herro traded to Cleveland Cavaliers
The dynamic in Cleveland between the Cavaliers and Collin Sexton doesn’t look good. Reports surfaced during the season that teammates didn’t like playing with him and grew frustrated by how much he controlled the ball. Furthermore, leaks suggested coaches were ordered to praise him constantly. Now, the Cavaliers must decide whether to extend Sexton or Jarrett Allen with a max contract.
Cleveland might be wise to shop Sexton and that seems to be the direction things are headed. If that happens, it’s a safe bet that Pat Riley will inquire. While there are issues with Sexton’s game, he also excelled this past season with the Cavaliers and could take his next game to the next level with the Heat. Miami would still need to worry about that contract extension, but Sexton would make the team better.
Detroit Pistons acquire outside shooting
The ping pong balls worked out in the Detroit Piston’s favor, which could change this franchise for years to come. Cade Cunningham will almost certainly be the No. 1 pick, he is the consensus top prospect in the 2021 NBA Draft and can be a franchise guard. But for him to thrive, the Pistons need to get shooters around him.

A player like Jerami Grant could interest Miami. There’s also the possibility of a three-team trade, with the Pistons holding Killian Hayes and future first-round picks as potential assets to move. We know this front office will explore every possible avenue to build a foundation, a pairing of Cunningham and Herro could be a great fit.
New Orleans Pelicans acquire Tyler Herro
The New Orleans Pelicans can’t walk out of this offseason without adding more perimeter shooting. Zion Williamson is a force that will only get better with experience, but he needs complementary players around him. Needless to say, the idea of “Point Zion” and Brandon Ingram teaming up with Herro is exciting.
New Orleans certainly has plenty of assets to move. While many of those pieces wouldn’t necessarily perfectly fit Miami’s needs, it’s also not like Herro’s trade value is at an all-time high right now. Reports already surfaced about the Heat having concerns with his personal life and it’s not like the 21-year-old guard is consistent. If Herro is traded, the Pelicans need to be heavily involved in discussions.
