Already a popular pick to reach the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat have a deep and talented roster led by Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro. They also have one of the best coaches in the Association in Erik Spoelstra.
This past offseason, the Heat added several impact players to their core such as Kyle Lowry and P.J. Tucker. They have yet to even see what Victor Oladipo can offer as he recovers from a right knee injury.
Miami Heat have shown aggressive nature, desire to win
As we’ve already witnessed, the Heat won’t hesitate to add more star power if they feel it helps the team’s chances to compete deep into the postseason.
Meanwhile, Houston Rockets point guard John Wall has yet to step foot on an NBA court this season as he seeks a trade to a more competitive atmosphere. The major issue is Wall’s contract.
Wall is owed $44.3 million in 2021 and has a player option for another $47.4 million next season.
While he’s a five-time All-Star, Wall has played just 113 games in the past five seasons, dating back to the start of the 2017 NBA year. Not only has the former Kentucky star struggled to stay healthy, Wall hasn’t contributed to a lot of wins for his basketball team.
Playing 40 games for the Rockets during the 2020-21 NBA season, Wall actually had a win share of -0.2, which is an estimate of the number of wins contributed by each individual player.
Of course no NBA team is willing to add a player who doesn’t help their organization win games, especially at the cost of Wall’s contract.
Could John Wall be a fit in South Beach?
However, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald points out, the Miami Heat would have interest in signing Wall, should he get bought out of his contract.
This is extremely unlikely to happen, as Wall does not want to walk away from $91.7 million, just to get back onto the court in what would likely be a drastically reduced role than what he’s used to. Wall has started 601 out of the 613 games he’s played in his NBA career.
The Heat are already going strong, bringing in a potential injury risk and possible deterrent to winning into such a competitive atmosphere may not end well. In any event, don’t expect John Wall to land in Miami any time soon.
