There are some around the NBA that believe the Miami Heat could soon consider moving one of the best young players to shed salary and avoid some tax bills in the future.

One of the biggest topics around the NBA in recent weeks has been how punishing the new collective bargaining agreement between players and the league will be to teams that spend huge sums of money on their roster. In simple terms, the next CBA is expected to make it very costly for teams to have a “big three” on their future rosters.

The massive tax penalties to come have led many around the league to believe that is a key reason behind the Golden State Warriors’ surprising decision to trade young star Jordan Poole just before the massive contract extension he signed last summer kicks in. The Miami Heat have been far most cost-effective in recent years, and some believe they could move one of their best players soon to save a lot of money over the next few years.

Miami Heat could soon consider trading Tyler Herro

On Friday, Yahoo Sports insider Jake Fischer delved into how the new CBA will affect some organizations’ payroll strategy this summer and what is being said around the league about the Miami Heat’s potential plans this offseason.

“Trading Poole, who signed a nearly identical contract to Tyler Herro’s last summer, has only increased speculation from team personnel that the Miami Heat will explore avenues to deal Herro’s own lucrative extension before it even begins — also with consideration to the Heat’s run to the NBA Finals without Herro in the active lineup due to a broken hand.”

Tyler Herro signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension last year that will begin this season and see his yearly salary increase to $27 million in 2023-2024. The 23-year-old has consistently gotten better for the team, however, he was injured early in their first-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks and missed the rest of their run to the finals in May.
