One team came very close to Dalvin Cook trade this offseason

Talk of Dalvin Cook potentially being traded has been a big talking point all offseason for the Minnesota Vikings as they continue to plan for the future, which will include a record-breaking contract for Justin Jefferson.

But we’re now into June, and Cook still remains with the Vikings. While it’s possible the front office has been waiting until after June 1 so they can realize more cap savings via trade or possibly even by releasing the Pro Bowler, it’s also possible the Vikings have decided they’re better off with the talented running back in the starting lineup.

Teams usually aren’t in the business of releasing players who still rank among the best at their position, but it’s been done before. At this point, it feels as if the Vikings are holding out hope that another team makes an offer too good to refuse.

Yet, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, one team did come quite close to pulling off a trade for the 27-year-old back this offseason. According to Breer, the Miami Dolphins came “very close” to swinging a trade for the Florida native back in March. Yet, somehow the deal fell apart.

The Dolphins since drafted Devon Achane with the 84th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, making everyone wonder how much they’d be willing to pay via trade for Cook if anything at all.

It remains to be seen whether the Dolphins or any other team, are willing to make the Vikings an offer strong enough to land Cook, knowing he could very well be released instead. But thanks to Breer, we know there was strong interest in a trade from Miami’s perspective at one point this offseason.
