The New York Mets’ disastrous season might have taken another turn Thursday against the San Diego Padres.

With his Mets up 4-0 in the ninth inning, All-Star closer Edwin Diaz took to the mound. Before he could even record an out, the struggling reliever took a come backer from Manny Machado to the foot and had to exit the game immediately.

It’s obviously too early to tell how significant the injury might be.

Diaz has been the subject of trade talk leading up to next week’s deadline mere months after the Mets sent a bounty to the Seattle Mariners for his services.

It has not panned out. Diaz entered Thursday’s action against the Padres having posted a 4.81 ERA and 1.42 WHIP while blowing six saves.

This comes after he saved a league-high 57 games while posting a 1.96/0.79 split in Seattle last season.
