Memphis Grizzlies star hit with another 5-figure fine, furthering rep as NBA’s next Draymond Green

On Friday, Memphis Grizzlies defensive and dirty work ace Dillon Brooks landed his second five-figure fine of the season and furthered his growing reputation as the league’s next Draymond Green.

On Wednesday, Brooks got himself in hot water with the NBA when he shoved a cameraman after diving into the sideline in pursuit of a loose ball during the team’s 138-119 loss to the Miami Heat. The moment at first seemed like an accidental collision.

However, the footage from the cameraman and a second slow-motion angle showed that the Memphis Grizzlies player did push the man to the ground. The individual stayed on the floor for some time after as he was attended to by medical officials. There was no doubt that the league would investigate the incident and on Friday they dropped the hammer on Dillon Brooks.

Joe Dumars, the NBA’s executive vice president and head of basketball operations, announced today that Brooks had been fined $35,000 for the “unsportsmanlike act” earlier this week.

This is not the first time that a penalty has been levied on the Memphis Grizzlies’ talent this season. In December he was hit with a $25,000 fine for aggressively confronting a referee after an injection. And he was suspended for the team’s March 5 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers after picking up a league-leading 16th technical foul in their previous game.

This season has pushed Dillon Brooks to the forefront of the league’s most probable players. Joining Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, who has built a massive reputation for his similar aggressive style and on-the-court antics, as he has racked up many fines and technical fouls during his career.

What makes the similarities all the more interesting is the two Western Conference players have developed a personal rivalry this season as their two teams have clashed as they jockey for playoff positioning in the 2023 NBA postseason.
