Meek Mill dropping Colin Kaepernick song

This was inevitable. Both have been seen as the face of a new civil rights movement in the United States. One from behind a jail cell, and the other attempting to combat perceived racial injustice within the American court system and law enforcement sector.

Recently released from jail, hip-hop artist Meek Mill is on the verge of releasing a song centering around free agent NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, his treatment by the NFL and the former Super Bowl signal caller’s national anthem protests.

It goes without saying that Mill is 100 percent in Kaepernick’s corner here. The rapper just told Page Six that a Kaepernick-centric song will be included in his yet-to-be released album, the first since he’s been released from jail.

“I’m not actually giving out a release date, it’s a surprise album,” he said. Some of the lyrics in the song tell us a story of a man who has Kaepernick’s back in a big way.

“They won’t lynch him by hanging from a tree. They lynch his bank account,” Mill said. “Back in the ’30s you would be killed if you kneeled. They won’t kill you now, they just take you out of the deal.”

The song will obviously cater to those who are on Kaepernick’s side of the entire debate. This comes after Nike made the divisive figure the head pitchman in its 30th anniversary of the Just Do It campaign, which created major pushback from some while leading to financial growth Nike has not seen in decades.

Interestingly enough, Mill was a guest of the Philadelphia Eagles as they celebrated their Super Bowl title Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Obviously, the NFL itself will have an opinion on someone of his ilk, closely tied to the Philadelphia sports scene, knocking the league down in what promises to be a popular song.
