New York Mets ace Max Scherzer threw three shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday afternoon and took to the bump for the fourth inning in Southern California.

That’s when everything went terribly wrong for the future Hall of Famer and his team. Scherzer was ejected from the game for allegedly using an illegal foreign substance.

Said ejection came after a heated conversation between the former Cy Young winner and umpires calling the game. Check it out here:

It was earlier in the game that umpires made Max Scherzer switch gloves. In the end, they believed there was enough evidence to toss him from this heavyweight battle between two National League contenders.

Veteran Mets manager Buck Showalter was seen attempting to come down an irate Scherzer after the ejection.

Max Scherzer stats (2022): 2-1 record, 4.41 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 14 K’s, 16.1 innings

For Scherzer, this comes amid some early-season struggles on the part of the eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young winner. Interestingly enough, this also comes two years after Scherzer questioned MLB’s decision to check for illegal substances.

“The players should have a say in this. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will. It just appears that MLB is going to do whatever they want with this,” Scherzer said back in June of 2021.

Scherzer has also been clear throughout the past few years that he doesn’t use foreign substances. About that? Only time will tell.
