Matthew Stafford open to appearing in Netflix’s ‘Quarterback’ series this season

Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’ve already heard about Netflix’s Quarterback TV series. The show was an overwhelming hit in its first season. Now everyone wants to know who will be on season two. Could Matthew Stafford get in on the fun?

We’ve already seen Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota go through a season thanks to the masterful behind-the-scenes look offered by Omaha Productions, but who’s next?

Well, according to Kelly Stafford, wife of Matthew, the TV series initially approached the Los Angeles Rams QB about participating on the show for season one. Obviously, we now know the then-reigning Super Bowl champion turned it down, but according to his wife, we could see the 35-year-old gunslinger make an appearance in season two.

“They approached Matthew last year for this show, he turned it down. You guys know how private my husband is. But Quarterback is different. He didn’t do it for a couple reasons. He’s private, he also didn’t want to put his teammates through it. It was also the first year, he wanted it to kind of figure itself out so he knows what all to expect. He’s like ‘I don’t want my teammates to deal with cameras in the locker room. But I think with a season under the belt, we’ll see. I think he’ll reconsider.”

Kelly Stafford, wife of Matthew, on her husband’s thoughts about ‘Quarterback’

First off, yes, having Stafford on last season’s show would have been marvelous. Although we didn’t see him or the Rams have a strong season, that’s exactly why it may have been even more compelling.

Here we had a player coming off the peak of his career, culminating in a Super Bowl victory. Yet then his reward was dealing with a debilitating elbow injury that ended up sidelining him for the season later on.

It may not have been the success story we saw from Mahomes, but this is life in the NFL. There’s good and there’s bad. What Stafford went through is just another reminder that even though these are million-dollar athletes, they’re humans too.

Now looking for a rebound, having Stafford on the second season would once again provide a compelling storyline. The world wants to know if the big-armed QB has lost any velocity on his fastball, and after a 3-6 record in 2022, Stafford has a Lion-sized chip on his shoulder heading into a new year.
