Calm and cool as a cucumber, new Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones doesn’t appear to be feeling the heat about stepping in for the legendary Calvin Johnson.
This is at least the attitude Jones displayed when reporters at TMZ Sports caught up with him at Los Angeles International Airport to ask about the pressure of his new role.
“No, there’s definitely no pressure. I don’t feel it.”
Jones proceeded to have nothing but high regards when he spoke about the recently retired Johnson, calling him “one of the greatest.”
Appearing confident in his skills, Jones expressed that the team signed him based on the kind of playmaker he is and will continue to be now that he’s in Detroit.
Apparently the Lions believe in Jones’ potential, otherwise a hefty contract wouldn’t have landed on his lap.
Jones is coming off a 2015 season that saw him record 65 receptions for 816 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games. That came on the heels of him missing the entire 2014 season with an ankle and foot injury.
No one is going to replace a player in Calvin Johnson that retired as one of the best receivers to suit up. Though, the Lions had to start somewhere. In this, they must have believed Jones was the best receiver in an otherwise weak free-agent pool.
