The Dallas Mavericks pulled off a blockbuster trade with the New York Knicks to acquire forward Kristaps Porzingis, but fans will need to wait a while before he’s on the court playing with Luka Doncic.

Mark Cuban, speaking to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, said Porzingis probably will not play at all for the Mavericks this season as he continues to recover from the torn ACL suffered last year in his left knee.

This makes a ton of sense. Even before the trade, it was reported Porzingis would likely not play at all this NBA season. Furthermore, it’s not like Dallas is currently in dire need of Porzingis — currently the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 23-28.

The trade to land Porzingis was meant to bolster this team’s future. So, in keeping with that line of thinking, making sure The Unicorn comes back fully healthy for the 2019-20 season makes too much sense.
