Report: Knicks preparing for Kristaps Porzingis to miss all of next season

When New York Knicks star forward Kristaps Porzingis suffered a torn ACL back in February, the entire basketball community was thrown for a loop. It wasn’t an injury anyone saw coming, and could have wide-ranging ramifications for one of the brightest young stars in the Association.

Normally, the timeline for said injury would have put Porzingis on track to return by opening day this coming October. While that might very well be the case, this one report suggests that the Knicks themselves are preparing for the youngster to miss the entire 2018-19 season.

“Porzingis and the Knicks have been vague about when the power forward is expected to be ready to play again. Sources told Amico Hoops on Friday that New York is prepared for Porzingis to miss all of next season,” Ashish Mathur of Amico Hoops reported.

That’s a pretty darn troubling report right there. If this proves to be the case, New York’s hopes of continuing to build a young team around the 22-year-old big man will be severely impacted.

A first-round pick of the Knicks back in 2015, Porzingis averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in 48 games last season.
