Most of the talk heading into NFL Draft weekend centered on where the very top quarterback prospects would land. Once the dust settled by Day 3, the attention turned to late-round gems who could someday develop into a potential starting quarterback. This is where players like Stetson Bennett come into play.

After winning back-to-back college football national championships at Georgia, Bennett is taking his talent to the Los Angeles Rams, who made him the 128th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He is the seventh quarterback taken in this year’s draft, with Fresno State’s Jake Haener being selected by the New Orleans Saints just one pick ahead of Bennett.

GM Les Snead gets his favorite QB in the draft with the 5-foot-11 Atlanta, Georgia native who walked on with the Bulldogs to become a national icon. Despite being wildly successful at Georgia, Bennett’s draft stock was all over the place. Yet, the QB seemingly boosted his stock with a strong performance at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Bennett may have made an off-field mistake, getting arrested for public intoxication following Georgia’s CFP title game, but that doesn’t appear to have impacted his standing in the NFL Draft. Instead, Bennett’s set to be the backup QB to Matthew Stafford, who also went to Georgia.

While Stafford may be firmly entrenched as the starter for now, he’s also 35 years old and won’t be around to quarterback Sean McVay’s team forever. Perhaps Bennett could someday become a solution in LA.
